This Is Climate Justice

If David beats Goliath it’s a religious experience. If Goliath is Chevron and David is a handful of environmental activists –- it’s a news event.

The San Francisco Bay Area city of Richmond is home to a massive Chevron refinery, where a leaky pipe exploded in 2012. Chevron tried to fix the leak without shutting down fuel production, but that - quite literally - backfired.

Richmond’s mayor and city council sued Chevron. But the fossil fuel giant fought back, financing a slate of friendly candidates in the 2014 elections, complete with TV attack ads. But if Chevron thought its 3 million dollars, its backing of hand-picked candidates and its sleazy attack ads would get their guys elected…well, they don’t know Richmond.
